Italy June 2014 (Updated)

...Enjoying the sun...

"Veni, Vidi, Vici" Edition

The 209 units sold this June make it the best selling month for EV's in Italy this year, placing the EV Share at 0,10%, in line with last years result (0,11%).

In the YTD ranking, the Nissan Leaf jumped from Third to the Leadership, thanks to 34 sales, changing positions with the Smart Fortwo ED.

But the real news is the arrival of the Mitsu Outlander PHEV, selling 43 units in its first month of sales, making it already the best seller of the month, if this level of sales is to continue, the rest of the competition has a big problem to deal with.

    Hi!
    Thanks for the exciting website!
According to unrae.it (association of foreign automakers' website), there are also 10 BMW i3 REx, while 21 are the BEVs only (so, total 31 i3s).

They're in the Hybrid table (with the Outlander).

    Ciao

    2. Yeah, no doubt. And... Agghh, flippin, f**kin hell! I saw a Tesla Model S, Brown, white turbine rims, 142 reg, near Bray town! I'd look forward for some July sales in 2 weeks.

    3. It must have been sort of the same reaction i had when a few days ago i saw the first Outlander PHEV sitting right in front of my home, i mean, i didn't even knew they were already selling them in Portugal!

My first thoughts were: "Wait a minute, that's a PHEV! Here?!? Mitsu, are trying to tell me something?!?!!?"

    4. I'd feel the same way if I saw an Outlander PHEV. There was one in a shopping centre a month ago but I didn't get the chance to see it. I don't know why there's not much word coming from Portugal, it seems like every country in Europe (and Japan, AUS and NZ) is making a fuss over it. Mitsubishi Motors Ireland has been very aggressive with advertising, even more aggressive and committed than Nissan. There's a huge billboard advert for the PHEV in the middle of town.

    5. Probably Mitsu Portugal didn't had much hopes on the Outlander PHEV, as this is predominantly a BEV country (There's some 200 Leaf registered here, while the best selling PHEV, the Ampera, has just 23...).

But, as this month in Italy proves, the japanese SUV can break through even in pure electric turf, so i wouldn't rule out a top position for it here.

    6. Ireland never had a PHEV for sale, but there's one white Ampera running around. It's only been pictured. It's like a little unicorn! Maybe because it was priced for around €50,000.

Well, we'll see how the Mitsubishi will behave in both Ireland and Portugal, but I should add, July is the first month it has been on sale here, and July is the only substantial month for sales after March. (Big dip of sales for the months inbetween).

After July, it just becomes a constant decline from a few thousand to a few hundred by the end of the year. It was really bad timing to introduce it at this time of year as they would have to wait until January to see some actual sales. Unless Portugal has a similar volatile market as Ireland's, it's very likely Portugal would perfom better for all of 2014.

    7. I hope so, for whatever reason, plug-in hybrids don't have the benefits of pure electrics (Circulation tax exemption, free parking in certain areas) here, but now there's talks that things will change next year, so i believe that the true kick-off for the Outlander PHEV will be in 2015.
