USA July 2014

ELR's are finally going out in the open
Tesla Sinks Edition

10.533 plug-ins were sold in the US, which is just 23% above last year performance, and Tesla is to blame for it, as it had just sold some 500 units in July, it's worst result since October 2012!

Several reasons may explain it, from the Chinese and Left Hand Drive markets landing focus, to the factory retooling for the Model X, to others, but the fact is that the Model S was #3 in June with some 1.800 units, while in July it dropped to #6 in the monthly ranking.

The main benefited of this was the Fusion Energi (1.226 units sold in July), now just 439 units behind Tesla in the YTD ranking, with the retooling lasting several weeks, August should see another weak sales month for Tesla, and with it, the rise of the Ford sedan to #4 YTD.

A bit further at the top, we might see another position swap next month, with the Chevy Volt is now pretty close (36 units, to be precise) of the Prius Plug-In, and given the current sales trend of the american car (Sixth monthly sales improvement in a row!), we might see the Volt closer to return to its natural habitat (Sales leader in 2010, 2012 and 2013).

A few sales records were broken this month, the BMW i3 improved again its numbers to 363 units (Now it has the #8 spot at less than 100 units), the Smart Fortwo ED (298 units), established a new personal best for the fourth fifth month in a row(!!!),and the Cadiilac ELR had a new sales record, with 188 registrations (Woohoo!), passing the Porsche Panamera Plug-In in the YTD ranking and now being the best-selling-overpriced-car here.
